Don't know what to say

It's been a couple of weeks since I last posted.
There is really nothing to blog about unless I want to venture into dangerous territory... and I don't really want to.
Life here has been... boring.
We go to work, come back late (at least when comparing coming back from work in SF, it's hella late, not just late), do our own shit, go to bed... and then it's that same routine all over again. Plain freaking boring.

Anyway, since there is nothing to blog about... I will just wet my feet a little in dangerous territory.

A week ago my boss asked me if I would like to go attend a class, actually 2 classes. The classes were going to help me in 2 ways, however, before I can tell you what those 2 ways are, I probably need to provide some background.
Currently, at work, I am designing a class for my curriculum. When I am done, and by the time the class is rolled out, our graduating kids, besides a diploma will also be partially certified for a certain (not gonna mention any names) banking certification. The only thing they will be lacking is work experience and once they have worked for a couple of years, they will be fully certified.
So, the class I am supposed to attend, is conducted for working professionals to get this certification. Attending the class will, once again, do 2 things for me. (1) Make me certified and (2) Allow me to see what material is used for this class that I can incorporate into the class I am designing.

Well, that were the 2 ways I would benefit... so I thought.
When I called the supposedly "world class institution" to enquire about the class. Firstly, I was told the class might not go on due to the poor response. Reason being the class is offered Mon to Fri from 9:30am to 5pm. DUH!! I could have told you that a class designed for working professionals shouldn't be during those times. Next, I was casually informed that they STILL HAD NOT RECEIVED ACCREDITATION. So, they advertised on their website that you would be certified, but they did that before the institution received accreditation. Isn't that false advertising?
HA! I know what it is called in Singapore. It's called mis-selling!!! And since this does not deal with millions and millions of dollars, I am sure there is not going to be any recourse at all.
After receiving this news, I approached my colleague who was going to be attending another similar course but at a different "world class institution" here in Singapore. Guess what? They also advertised the same thing but were "in the process of getting accredited and HOPEFULLY, will get accreditation by the time the course begins in March". FAN-F**KING-TASTIC!!!
This certification honestly means nothing to both my colleague and myself. It is a nice to have, not a need to have. The classes we are attending deals primarily with middle and back room operations in banks and if either she or I were to return to banking, it would not be in those roles. So, not having the certification is... just a minor inconvenience... but what about the livelihoods of the people who are really attending BECAUSE of the certification? Isn't this just a damn scam. I reckon it to going to a college and being told I would get a degree but at the end of my course, the college telling me... oops, sorry, but we couldn't get accreditation to give you a degree. It's flat out FRAUD. AND... oh yes, I forgot to mention, it is going to cost in excess of SS$6,000 for 60 hours of class. There is still a fee of about 20% of the course fee for the assessment portion. So, yes, it is FRAUD because I am not getting what I am paying for. BUT, these "world class institutions"... well, they will never get into trouble... 'cos... well, this is the part I am going to leave out... you go figure it yourself.

Selling bullshit to the masses... that's what these institutions are doing.

O-V-E-R-R-A-T-E-D!!!

The Duck fans already know where I am going with this...

Oklahoma
-5th straight BCS loss... DON'T PUT THEM IN A BCS GAME ANYMORE!!
- lost for the 3rd straight time with a National Championship at stake. DEFINITELY DON'T PUT THEM IN A NC GAME. THEY DON'T DESERVE IT AT ALL.
The Sooners are an embarassment and I hope they now know that the $3M bonus was a complete waste of money... booyah!!!

If I had a vote.
(1) Utah
(2) Florida
(3) USC
(4) Texas
(5) Alabama
(6) Oklahoma
(7) Oregon
(8) TCU
(9) Penn St
(10) Georgia

Who got shot?

READ THIS ARTICLE

and then tell me WHO GOT SHOT?

How on earth can a roughly 150 or so word article be so damn complicated?

BCS troubles

Yesterday, USC made sure that the "playoffs or no playoffs" debate continued into the next college football season.
Today, Utah put an exclamation mark on that statement.

Of the top 8 teams in the BCS rankings, every team is a one loss team except for Utah.
As of the end of the Utah/Alabama game this evening, 3 of those one loss teams (Bama, Texas Tech and Penn St) had become 2 loss teams. By the end of Jan 8, at least one more team (Florida or Oklahoma) would be another 2 loss team. That leaves 3 one loss teams and an unbeaten team.
WHY SHOULD THE WINNER OF THE FLORIDA/OKLAHOMA GAME BE CROWNED NATIONAL CHAMPION?
USC has a good reason to gripe that they should be NC.
Texas, who will hand Ohio State a whoopin, will have a good reason to gripe they should be NC.
And Utah, who is 13-0 and beat the team that was ranked #1 as recently as the week before the last week of the regular season has every reason to gripe that they should be NCs.

Like Kyle Whittingham, the Head Coach for Utah said after the game, he knows who he is voting #1. If I were a voter, I would vote them #1 too. It really doesn't matter they have a softer schedule than the BCS leagues. What matters is that they got the job done. And then they went to Sugar Bowl and put the icing on the cake. They should be #1.

This debate has gone on since the inception of the BCS. In some years, the debate has had less heat, in other years, a lot more. This year, I am sure there is going to be super heated discussion after the NC game on Jan 8. The end to this debate is no where in sight. Or is it?

Happy New Year!!!

2009! What will 2009 have in store for us?

Well, before I get to that, let's wind up 2008...

1) HOW BOUT THEM DUCKS!!!
Oregon went to the Holiday Bowl, caused some anxious moments but at the end of it all, gave all Duck fans something to look forward to in the 2009/2010 season.
In case you are a Duck fan and you missed it...
And congratulations to the Pac-10 for going 5-0.
And a special congratulations to USC on their blowout of the Nittany Lions. Why congratulations? Well, USC capped the 5-0 for the Pac-10 and once again gave a headache to the BCS and the age old question of "playoffs or no playoffs"?

2) There will be no more CFB predictions till the Fall. Hope I fare better next year.

3) New Year's Eve was... NYE. New Year's Eve, I learnt this long time ago, thanks to having to work at Scandal's, is the world's most over-rated day. Remember, this is MY blog and I am entitled to say whatever the hell I feel like saying. NYE every-f**king-year finds all the amateurs coming out to party. People who have saved all year just for that one particular day. People who spend all they have saved on that one particular night. People who spend all they have saved on that one particular night, just to have it all come out, usually through their mouths, on that same one particular night. It is the night I actually try to stay clear of stupid people.
BUT, the most stupid people are those who get stopped and arrested for DUI on NYE. In both Singapore and the US (and I am sure many other countries), that is the night that EVERYONE including my colleague's 6 year old knows that that are cops and traffic stops ALL OVER THE F**KING PLACE. It's bad if you get a DUI on any night, but if you can one on the eve of a holiday, it's "badder". And if you get one on NYE, it's the "baddest". In fact, if you get a DUI on NYE, I think the punishment should not be a fine and/or jail and/or road crew. If you get a DUI on NYE, you are so stupid, you should be put to rest forever for the sake of the gene pool. Seriously, I am no saint but you can be rest assured I will be cabbing or having a DD after my second drink on NYE.

And now for 2009.

1) At least for the first half of the year, just as bleak if not worse than 2008. Don't listen to those people who tell you otherwise, they are either just:
(i) high (and they should share some of whatever they are smoking with us),
(ii) in denial ('cos they have not recovered from the sock in the face they got from 2008),
(iii) have a business that needs you to believe that 2009 will be better than 2008,
or
(iv) fall into the same group as those DUI people above... know it's gonna be bad but have to say something stupid (the DUI people had to DO something stupid).

2) Hope I do not kill myself or someone 'cos I ran out of patience. I think that's my resolution, kind of. I'm not sure I can keep my resolution and I am not gonna even pretend I'm gonna try. Hopefully the downturn sends all the f**king foreigners that irritate the shit out of me here back home. They can come back in a few years when I am done with this place. But till then, go, go quickly, and don't let the door hit your ass on the way out. Just go.

3) For those of you who have unfortunately loss your jobs due to the downturn. For those of you who have businesses struggling. I do hope you will pull through this difficult period.

And thus we usher in the new year...
